AI Revolution Faces Data Privacy Challenge: Blockchain Could Be the Key

Blockchain

We are living in the middle of the rise of AI but we cannot claim that the world is flooded with AI yet. The problem is that as the models further develop, the questions of training and data acquisition gain even more significance. Oddly enough, blockchain might be that answer.

It is worth mentioning that there is a huge number of discussions on the integration of AI and blockchain, which is frequently considered just as the marriage of two buzzwords. They have tried to combine the two in a way that has seen token launches that are not for the development of new technologies but for the sake of earning money.

Ambitious technologies that refer to innovative goods and services, whose appropriate markets may not be clearly defined, are sensitive to hype. This is noticeable with AI, where billions of investments have been made, but the real world does not live up to the expectations.

AI’s Potential for Improvement

Production-ready LLM models such as ChatGPT have shifted people’s attitudes to AI. Most of these models are capable of handling a lot of work, from restructuring articles to writing computer code. Still, newer models like, GPT-4. 0 and Claude 3. 5 have only made revised enhancements, and are still constrained to rather specific uses.

However, AI is not there yet and still cannot create substantive and professional news articles. Particularly, tough enunciated by the experts such as Computer Science professor at Princeton Arvind Narayanan, the current AI models are unlikely to make a jump to Artificial General Intelligence.

The latest developments aim at enabling models to be flexible to run on portable devices with restricted space and power. This could thus improve the usefulness of the AI assistants by reducing delays and allowing some computation on the local level.

Data Collection: The Biggest Constraint

Is the fact that many of the country’s institutions are still highly authoritarian and continue to suppress their populations rights and freedoms.

Whereas, with insignificant changes in models, the quality of AI assistants greatly relies on training data. However, ways in which big players in the development of AI gather data have raised concerns. Such companies as Meta receiving a hammering for covert data operations influencing their reputation over data management.

There are challenges on relations with AI alignment, which is vital given that Open AI provides a solution to negative actions. The management of this data needs to be effective and safe, where the use of blockchain applications could be helpful.

Blockchain: A Trustworthy Solution

It is for this reason that blockchains provide independent and trustless truth, which is crucial in the creation of ethical data usage in artificial intelligence. Taken from today’s application for cryptocurrencies, the same system can be implemented for data storage.

However, applicability of the blockchain technology is restricted by its characteristic of being public. Regulation of privacy is another significant research field that contains solutions by such techniques as zero-knowledge cryptography and synchronous fully homomorphic encryption.

Blockchain Privacy: The Missing Link

Some of the blockchains that incorporate privacy features include the Aleo, Aztec, and COTI; they offer privacy while keeping records. These technologies enable users to own the rights of the kind of information they produce online, and the kind of information that is shared.

Organizing innovation and guarding data using private blockchains could be a solution changing AI or data protection industries drastically and rendering most public directives nonessential. This shift of consciousness could make blockchain popular and guarantee the morality of AI.

Such an approach has stronger benefits appealing to solutions provided by the blockchain that can be presented as an adequate replacement for people’s trust in corporations or governments of the world with personal data. Perhaps, the ability to use blockchain in protecting the privacy of data may be essential in determining the future of AI and the related technologies.
