The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has established AI fellowships for B.Tech and M.Tech students under the IndiaAI mission.
The IndiaAI Mission is a major program established by the Indian government to strengthen the country’s AI capabilities. This comprehensive program aims to stimulate innovation, support businesses, and establish a robust AI infrastructure.
This project aims to establish India as a worldwide AI leader by leveraging public-private collaborations and encouraging ethical AI development. Currently, the investment would begin with an outlay of Rs 10,371.92 crore (approx. $1.24 billion).
The IndiaAI FutureSkills fellowship program will initially fund 10 students pursuing B.Tech and M.Tech degrees at the top 50 NIRF-ranked engineering universities. These fellowships are meant for students working on AI projects, thereby developing a workforce knowledgeable in AI technologies and applications.
The government is going to launch the IndianAI Mission at Global IndaiAI summit that is going to be held on July 3-4 in New Delhi.
IndiaAI invited the top 50 NIRF-ranked institutions to join this program. Participation from these institutions is critical to improving AI education and research in India. Institutions that submit nominations for the IndiaAI FutureSkills Fellowships can help their students become leaders in AI innovation and application.
To qualify for the fellowship, students must complete the following requirements:
B.Tech students must be enrolled in a full-time program and have finished their third year. They should have taken at least three AI-related courses, including Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, Data and Data Management Systems, Computer Vision, Neural Networks, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing. They should also have received an overall 80% or similar grade till the last completed semester. In circumstances where students receive less than 80%, the institute may give a rationale, which will be considered based on the availability of fellowships.
M.Tech Students: Must be currently enrolled in a full-time M.Tech program and pursuing postgraduate studies in AI-related fields.
