Smart India Hackathon 2024: Disaster Management

By: Engineer's Planet

Young innovators participating in the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 can take up these urgent issues in the sphere of disaster management. This theme aims at creating tools that will augment the disaster risk and its management preparedness. Six central problem statements within the Disaster Management theme in this blog are written with the aim of enhancing safety, resilience, and life within communities impacted by disasters.

This project seeks for ideas regarding how to come up with hardware solutions for reducing the risks of disasters and enhancing the planning and response measures for disasters.

1. Student Innovation (Hardware)

One of the primary challenges during Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) operations is searching for the bodies that are buried under the rubble. Standard command procedures take time and require many casualties to minimize.

2. Enhancing Body Detection in CSSR Operations

The present work is aimed at the creation of software products, which include challenges of disaster risks assessment and mitigation, disaster planning, and its management. Specifically, the focus is on improving the tools that are used in the management

3. Student Innovation (Software)

GLOFs are considered to be quite a common hazard in the glacial environment, and the current state of monitoring systems can be enhanced. The primary objective of this project is to create an Early Warning System

4. Early Warning System for Glacial Lake Outburst Floods

It is known that disaster management organizations and responders face a challenge in obtaining accurate information in a timely manner during emergencies. To solve the problem, the project aims at creating an information system that will collect and then process the information

5. Real-Time Disaster Info  Aggregation Software

In Conclusion, The Disaster Management theme in SIH 2024 is a unique subject which provides an avenue for innovators to come up with lifesaving solutions, hence averting the dire consequences of disasters. Assisting the participants in addressing these problem statements will make it possible for the creation of a safer and a more prepared world.
