Engineering colleges in India play a vital role in shaping the country’s technological landscape and producing skilled engineers who contribute to various industries worldwide. India boasts a vast network of engineering institutions, both public and private, offering diverse specializations and research opportunities. Here are some of the top engineering colleges in India:

1. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT):

In India, people consider IITs as the premier engineering institutes. These institutes hold a prestigious reputation and are highly regarded for their excellence in engineering education. With a total of 23 IITs located throughout the country, some of the notable ones include IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Roorkee.

Placement: IITs have a strong placement record, with many top companies visiting their campuses for recruitment.

  • Different phases of placements take place in various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across India, typically spanning from December to May. Students in top IITs usually receive salary packages ranging from INR 20-30 lakh per annum, while for other IITs, it falls between INR 10-20 lakh per annum.

Admission Process: The IITs admit students to their undergraduate programs (B.Tech) through the national-level entrance exam called the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced.

The institutes will release the merit list based on the JEE scores. The candidates who are shortlisted in the merit list will be called for counseling. The candidates should bring all the important documents at the time of counseling to get admission to the IITs.

National Institutes of Technology (NITs):

NITs are a distinguished group of engineering colleges in India, known for their prestige. With a total of 31 NITs located across the country, notable ones include NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, NIT Surath Kal, and NIT Calicut.

Placement: Most National Institutes of Technology (NITs) in India conduct placement drives in different phases, typically between the first week of December and the last week of March. Renowned companies from around the world actively participate in these drives to recruit engineering and other graduates from NIT campuses. The average salary package for students at the top NITs in India ranges between Rs 10-15 lakh per annum, while for other NITs, it is typically between Rs 5-10 lakh per annum.

Prominent domestic and international companies such as Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, Credence, Quad Eye Security, Lowe’s, Wissen, Nokia, Incture, Pharm Easy, ATCS, Toshiba, Cartesian Consulting, IBM, Cisco, Amazon, Arcaseum, SAP, Qualcomm, Oracle, and AppDynamics visit NIT campuses to recruit engineering graduates for various job roles.

Admission Process: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts counseling to facilitate the admission process for NITs. The counseling is based on the results of the JEE Main exam, and candidates who meet the merit criteria are eligible. Upon selection, candidates need to actively complete an online registration to participate in the counseling process.

Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani:

BITS Pilani is a private institution known for its engineering and technology programs.

Placements:

The conclusion of BITS Pilani Placements 2023 reveals that the average package at BITS Pilani stood at INR 30.37 LPA, while the highest package reached INR 60.75 LPA. The placement drive witnessed the participation of 109 recruiters, including renowned companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Visa, Adobe, and Cisco.

In terms of BITS Pilani Summer Internship Placements 2023, the highest stipend offered stood at INR 3.16 Lakhs per month. Students secured a total of 303 Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) during the summer internship placement drive.

Admission Process: The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) grants direct admission to students who achieve the first rank in their respective central and state boards in India, regardless of their BITSAT score. BITS Pilani conducts BITSAT, which is a national-level entrance exam.

Delhi Technological University (DTU), Delhi:

DTU, formerly known as Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), is a well-regarded government engineering college.

Placements: In the year 2023, IT Vellore concluded its placements with a successful outcome, extending a total of 14,345 offers. These offers were classified into four categories, consisting of 4,461 super dream offers, 3,453 dream offers, 624 marque offers, and 6,431 regular offers. The highest package offered at VIT Vellore reached INR 1.02 Crore Per Annum (CPA), while the average package amounted to INR 9.23 Lakhs Per Annum (LPA). Notable participation of 924 recruiters was observed during VIT Vellore Placements 2023. TCS emerged as a major contributor, setting a national record with 3,719 offers made. Other prominent recruiters included Microsoft, Airbnb, Qualcomm, Adobe, Uber, and Intuit.

Admission Process: VIT University conducts the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) to assess the eligibility of prospective students and determine their merit for admission to the university. In addition to merit-based admissions, there are also seats available through the management quota. Each year, approximately 200,000 students appear for the SITE. Currently, VIT University offers a total of 4,917 seats for eligible candidates.

Anna University, Chennai:

Anna University is a renowned public technical university in Tamil Nadu.

Placements:

Anna University has consistently maintained a strong placement record over the years. The university recently concluded its placement drive for the year 2022, resulting in a total of 1,700 placement offers for students. The average salary received by students was INR 7 LPA, which marks a 16.7% increase compared to the previous year. The highest salary offered stood at INR 36 LPA.

The 2022 placement drive witnessed the participation of 142 recruiters, including notable companies such as Cisco, DE Shaw, Ola, Samsung, Tiger Analytics, and Reliance, among others.

In the previous year, during the Anna University Placements 2021, a total of 1,797 students secured placements. The average salary received by students in 2021 was INR 6 LPA. The placement drive saw the participation of 120 recruiters.

Admission Process:

Anna University is accepting admissions for the academic year 2023 for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The university has opened online registrations for B.Arch. in various categories, including Other States, Consortium of Industries Quota, NRI, FN, and CIWGC. The deadline for registering for B.Arch. (Consortium of Industries) is July 18, 2023. Additionally, Anna University welcomes applications for MCA admissions from candidates from other states. The last date for MCA registration is July 20, 2023.

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT):

MIT offers a Bachelor’s and master’s program in engineering streams. It also gives students the option to carry out full-time or part-time research. The minimum duration for postgraduate qualified PhD students is three years for full-time, and four years for part-time. There is a one-year relaxation for applicants with an MPhil degree.

Placements: As of now, the ongoing Manipal Institute of Technology Placements 2023 has achieved a placement rate of 92.9%. The respective recruiters have offered the highest package of INR 54.75 LPA at Manipal Institute of Technology, while the average package stands at INR 12.59 LPA. A total of 339 recruiters, including well-known companies like Acolyte Digital, Adani, Adobe, EY India, Oracle, Flipkart, Havells, and more, have actively participated in the placement drive.

Admission Process: MAHE (Manipal Academy of Higher Education) in India offers Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), Super Speciality (SS), and Diploma courses. To be considered for admission to the B.Tech / MTech course, candidates must qualify for the MET 2021 exam. The university will conduct the MET 2021 exam as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and Remote Proctored Online Test in various cities across India and abroad (Dubai). UG and PG courses at MAHE are admitted based on the Manipal Entrance Test (MET).
