On June 23, 2024, the National Testing Agency (NTA) retook 1,563 applicants who had previously received grace marks in the NEET UG exam. This re-examination is critical for candidates seeking admission to undergraduate medical programs across the country. The results of this re-examination are scheduled to be disclosed on June 30, 2024.
813 of the 1,563 qualified applicants took part in the reexamination. Despite being qualified, neither of the two candidates in Chandigarh showed up for the test. Of the 602 eligible candidates in Chhattisgarh, 291 took the test. 287 out of 494 candidates in Haryana took the exam, or almost 58% of the total. In Meghalaya, just 50.43% of eligible students took the test. In Gujarat, the sole qualified applicant showed up for the test.
Following the discovery of misconduct, seventeen NEET-UG candidates from centers in Bihar were disqualified from re-examination, the NTA reported. Prior to this, 63 candidates nationwide were prohibited due to misconduct. Furthermore, 30 people from Godhra and 17 from Bihar have been excluded due to unfair acts.
The NEET-2024 controversy is reminiscent of the AIPMT 2015 scandal, where students protested against paper leaks and the CBSE did not declare the result. This time, 67 students have topped the exam, and the National Testing Agency introduced grace marks to compensate for the loss of time. Despite a challenging question paper, merit has risen significantly, and political leaders are engaging in heated debates.
